"Armenia at Home”
To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Sardarabad Daily, and as a tribute to all the remarkable women who, throughout these years, have contributed to the dissemination and teaching of Armenian cuisine and culinary traditions, Sardarabad is launching a cooking series dedicated to new generations.
This series is inspired by the book Armenian and International Cuisine, published by the Tekeyan Cultural Association in March 1984. The book, meticulously compiled, edited, and illustrated by Diana Dergarabetian, brings together a valuable collection of recipes contributed by numerous women who dedicated themselves to preserving and passing on their heritage. Even today, this book remains a valuable resource in many homes.

“Armenia at Home: A Kitchen That Unites Generations”
Today, we present “Lentils with Bulgur,” also known as mujaddara (also spelled mujadara, mejadra, or mudardara). This traditional Middle Eastern dish is made with lentils, wheat (usually bulgur or rice), and onions, and is known for its simplicity, nutritional value, and rich cultural heritage.
This dish has ancient roots, appearing in a 13th-century medieval cookbook. Considered a humble meal, accessible to all due to the low cost of its ingredients, it became a symbol of the cuisine of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan.
From a nutritional standpoint, the combination of lentils and grain provides a complete plant-based protein, something highly valued in modern diets.
This recipe, perfect for Holy Week, is the first in a series you'll find on social media and on the Sardarabad Daily YouTube channel.
